Nintendo mentions more of Mario's abilities as a flat character.
From GamesRadar, "The full range of paper-thin moves aren't known yet but we do know that in order to progress Mario (and other playable characters) will have the ability to use his slimmer-than-slim body to slip through cracks, plus he'll be able to roll up into a tube. These are in addition to Mario's previously announced ability to fold himself up into a paper plane. How cool is that? The new abilities promise an even greater adventure in this second Paper title but the variety of gameplay offered by a flying mechanic should really up the fun."

The game will include a four-player deathmatch mode, and Samus will have her hands full as someone else is after her during the game.
From Gamers, "However, she's not going to be the only hunter on the block... someone or something will be after Samus as well. Similar to Metroid Fusion, where players were chased by the SA-X, an entity that mimicked the beloved bounty hunter down to the Super Missiles and fashionable attire, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes will have a being following the beloved bounty hunter through this strange new world. The identity of this rather brave being is still unknown."
