Kingdom Hearts Re:coded E3 Trailer Now Available for Viewing

Continuing to release information at a steady pace, Square Enix updated the official Re:coded website with the trailer shown at last month's E3.

As we reported previously, the upcoming DS remake of 2008's cell phone-exclusive Kingdom Hearts Coded will feature a wide variety of gameplay styles. While exploring the digital contents of Jiminy Cricket's journal, Sora and friends return to previously visited worlds looking for clues regarding mysterious writing that has appeared within its pages. Perhaps realizing that fans can only revisit worlds so many times, each world in Re:coded will have its own unique way of playing to help keep them fresh as the story unfolds.

The trailer shows a mixture of genres ranging from stealth-like gameplay in Wonderland to full turn-based RPG battles in Olympus Coliseum. Side-scrolling action in Halloween Town and a return to platforming are also shown, providing what will hopefully be an enjoyable assortment of modes based on the core series mechanics. Though Square Enix just revealed an October 7th release for Japan, North American fans will have to wait until next year to get their hands on Re:coded.

Atlus Japan Arrives On PSN; New Game Coming?

The enhanced PlayStation port of Shin Megami Tensei, originally released on the Super Nintendo in 1992, has appeared on Japan's version of PSone Classics, Game Archive.

While the odds of Atlus USA localizing the game are extremely slim, this recent addition to Game Archive could lead to the release of other games from Atlus and, perhaps, Atlus USA. Revelations: Persona was ported to PSP and PSN last year under the name Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, however Persona 2: Eternal Punishment has yet to receive similar treatment. North American fans missed out on the first half of Persona 2, titled Innocent Sin, in addition to ports of Shin Megami Tensei II, Shin Megami Tensei If... and Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers.

Shifting from the past to the future, Siliconera reports that Atlus Japan has trademarked the title "Devil Hunter" in Japan. While not necessarily related to the Shin Megami Tensei series, the timing of the trademark is interesting. Via a PDF file released last month word spread that Atlus planned to develop a handful of games for the Nintendo 3DS. Among the titles mentioned was Devil Survivor, Atlus's strategy RPG hybrid from last year. Could it be related? Atlus typically unveils their games through Japanese magazine Famitsu, so we'll find out soon enough.

Nintendo 3DS Includes Anti-Piracy Measures

Nintendo's new 3DS will pack some anti-piracy tools into it's sleek package, but won't say how.

THQ's VP of International Publishing confirmed on Monday that the new 3DS will feature tools to combat piracy, something that plagues the DS and has many developers weary of developing games for the portable device. For obviously reasons, Nintendo will not release information regarding the anti-piracy inclusions, stating that these methods are hard to explain and will only be used to break through the piracy tools by those who wish to use pirated games.

The primary reason for including these anti-piracy systems is to restore trust in Nintendo's portable platforms and allow developers and publishers to push for higher sales volumes, which have been limited thanks to the rampant piracy on the DS Lite platform. Nintendo confirms that it will likely cost more to develop games in 3D, so it is important for developers will have the trust in the platform to build games and market them harder than present portable game sales.

Pokemon Black, White Has Video Chat, Sleep Mode Communication

Leaked scans from the newest edition of CoroCoro Magazine reveals more details on new Pokemon, gameplay features.

Continuing to release a steady stream of information for their upcoming set of Pokemon games, Nintendo has revealed several new details through Japan's CoroCoro. While we won't cover the Japanese names for the Pokemon or their attacks -- check the sources for all of that -- new additions to the series look to add even more depth to and connectivity options for the Pokemon community.

Following in the footsteps of games such as Dragon Quest IX, which shares map data with nearby players while the console is in sleep mode, Pokemon Black & White will feature a similar mode. While little beyond the fact that connecting with other players will benefit everyone has been revealed the mode, tentatively named "Pass By," encourages players to carry their DS around with them.

The previously announced, more traditional 3-on-3 battle party is also reported to factor positioning into attack damage and their overall effectiveness in battle. Attacks that strike multiple times or multiple opponents may vary in range, power or number of strikes depending on whether the Pokemon was placed into the front or back of the party. Combined with the weaknesses and resistances of each Pokemon, a whole new layer of strategy will be added to the existing formula.

Exclusive to DSi (and presumably 3DS) users, "Live Caster" will join the already existing voice chat, allowing players to video chat in real time. While Live Caster supports up to four players locally, only two are supported through WiFi connection. Given Nintendo's family-friendly and protective nature, we're going to assume video chat is only available to players that have added one another's Friend Codes/IDs and that means of blocking inappropriate players will be available.

Finally, two version-exclusive areas were revealed. Pokemon Black players will eventually be able to access an area known as the Black City, while Pokemon White players will instead gain access to the White Forest. It seems likely that Pokemon exclusive to one version or the other will appear in these areas.

Kid Icarus Uprising to Include Online Functionality

Speaking with UK magazine GamesMaster, Sora Ltd head Masahiro Sakurai has revealed an interest in incorporating online features into the upcoming Kid Icarus game.

Announced last month at E3, Kid Icarus Uprising was not only a triumphant return for the series but also served as the main face of the Nintendo 3DS during their press conference. Following Nintendo's comments that the 3DS would present significant advancements over their current online offerings, it seems as if Uprising may also help lay the groundwork for their improved online networks.

Says Sakurai: "The online capabilities are currently being tested. There could be some versus play but we can't go into any detail. There are a lot of capabilities that expand on what was in the DS that people are taking advantage of." The full interview will be in the September issue of GamesMaster, due to arrive at newsstands tomorrow. For the rest of us, Tokyo Game Show 2010 may be the event to watch.
