Nintendo planning Q4 blitz for Cube and Game Boy Advance
gi reports that Nintendo of America has revised their fourth quarter plans. The Gamecube should have a good holiday season, with titles such as Geist, Mario Tennis, Metroid Prime 2, Paper Mario 2, Star Fox 2, and Mario Party 6 scheduled for release. Between now and then, expect monthly new releases as ""Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Party Game$ sticks to its April 5th date (and budget price point), followed by Custom Robo Battle Revolutions on May 10th, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure on June 7th, Pikmin 2 in August and Donkey Konga in September." GBA owners have "Mario Vs. Donkey Kong on May 24th and Mario Golf Advance Tour on June 28th. Disappointingly though, it appears that NoA will not be following Nintendo Japan's lead in bundling the GBA wireless link adapter with Mario Golf. Instead, the wireless adapter will be released with GBC remakes Pokémon Fire Red and Leaf Green in September."
From GameSpot, "The list also confirmed that Geist, Mario Tennis, Mario Party 6, Metroid Prime 2, and Star Fox 2 will touch down in time for the 2004 holiday season (i.e., in Q4). Spring will see WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$ (April 5) and Custom Robo (May 10), while summer will herald The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (June 7) and Pikmin 2 (August). GameCubin' bongo players will also be pleased to know that Donkey Konga's US release has been confirmed for September."

MAME is an arcade emulator for DOS and Windows. Only the Windows binaries has been updated so far.
A new version of the popular MAME arcade emulator running under DOS and Windows has been released. "Even though MAME allows people to enjoy the long-lost arcade games and even some newer ones, the main purpose of the project is to document the hardware (and software) of the arcade games. There are already many dead arcade boards, whose function has been brought to life in MAME. Being able to play the games is just a nice side-effect. The huge success of MAME would not be possible without the talent of the programmers who joined to form the MAME team. At the moment, there are about 100 people on the team, but there is a large number of contributors outside the team too. Nicola Salmoria is still the coordinator of the project."

Three decades after "Pong" ricocheted into popular culture, video games are bouncing into the rarefied world of fine art.
Alex Pham explores the idea that video games can be considered a form of art. "Games are a powerful, artistic medium just now coming to maturity," said Rene de Guzman, visual arts curator for the Yerba Buena Center. Game notables John Carmack, Jason Rubin, and Rand Miller comment on how their creations can be considered more than just a form of interactive entertainment.
