The successor to the Gamecube may make its public debut at next year's E3, according to the Japanese press.
From GamePro, "Nintendo told reporters in Osaka on Thursday that it may unveil its next-generation console at next year's E3. Info surrounding the console, whether it be rumors or actual reports are still murky, with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata commenting at this year's E3 that the successor to the GameCube would create a 'gaming revolution', redefining how people play video games."

Cryptic comments hint that Revolution will indeed take gaming in a new direction.
From Spong, "[Nintendo Europe's managing director, David Gosen] went on to state that the Revolution will be more than just a computer in a box that plugs into your televison and is operated by a joypad, hinting that the multi-title peripheral-driven rollout inaugurated by Donkey Konga will be greatly expanded with the arrival of the Revolution."

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata says specs aren't everything when it comes to Nintendo's "Revolution" next-generation console system.
From gi, "'The word different defines our next home system,' Iwata boasted. 'Better technology is good, but technology is not enough - today's consoles already offer [near] photorealistic experiences. Simply beefing up those graphics will not for most of us make a difference.'"
"Iwata has made similar points recently back in Japan, and used E3 as a platform for once again emphasising that merely competing on tech specs isn't a game Nintendo feels like playing. Doing things as differently as possible evidently is its raison d'etre right now."

Rumor has it that Nintendo is taking a page from Sony's book by giving their next console the ability to play games designed for its predecessor.
From Gamers, "According to an article in the latest print issue of popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Nintendo executive Satoru Iwata has dropped word that the forthcoming successor to the Nintendo GameCube, aptly named GameCube 2 at this point, could very well be backwards compatible, allowing gamers to play their current GameCube titles on the new console."

Nintendo will be talking about the Gamecube's successor at E3.
From gi, "Comment on this will come from the highest levels," said Nintendo of America senior VP of sales and marketing, Reggie Fils-Aime, speaking about the forthcoming system which has been dubbed N5 in the media. "The focus and commitment we have on this will be shown at E3."
From GamesRadar, "Don't expect to see the machine itself, or any tech demos, for that matter. We're not sure exactly what Nintendo will disclose but an overview of specs and capabilities would be par for course with these things. It would be nice to think they'd mention the odd game or two (Zelda and Mario, at a wild guess...) but consider that a real bonus if it happens. Lastly, an official name wouldn't go amiss, even it's only a working title (such as Dolphin for Gamecube and Ultra64 for N64)."
