Guitar Hero 4 and Call Of Duty 5 have both been confirmed.
Oh, Blizzard and Activision are merging too
In a conference call with investors earlier today, Vivendi CEO Jean-Bernard Levy fleshed out more specifics on the $19 billion deal that will join Activision and Blizzard into one of the largest third-party publishers in the world. While analysts reacted favorably to the nitty-gritty financial details, what most gamers are primarily interested in is the future of the two publisher's popular franchises.
For Activision's stable of franchises, at least, the future looks pretty much as expected. In an industry note parsing out the benefits of the merger, Activision Blizzard unsurprisingly revealed the Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises would each receive new installments. Aside from being confirmed as Guitar Hero IV and Call of Duty 5, no other details on the games emerged.
The two franchises have been a boon in recent months for Activision. After tallying $115 million in first week sales, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock went on to be the best-selling cross-platform game for the month of October. Likewise, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has enjoyed both critical and commercial success, contributing to Activision's premerger upward revision of its 2008 fiscal outlook.
Activision Blizzard also reaffirmed that a game featuring the James Bond license was in development, Bizarre Creations was still at work on a racing title, and new Tony Hawk, Marvel, and DreamWorks titles were on the horizon.
The above article was "Pilfered" from Gamespot.
Lightning thinks: It won't make all that much difference, things will continue to run as they have and we'll still see some AAA titles coming our way.

Though company is back in black overall, SCEI posts $841 million operating loss thanks to aggressive PS3 hardware pricing, declining PS2 sales.
It was the best of times and the worst of times for Sony during its second fiscal quarter. The three months ending September 30 saw the electronics giant back in the black with an operating profit of 90.5 billion ($787 million), up from a ť20.8 billion ($180 million) operating loss the year before and over analysts' expectations. Overall Q2 revenue increased from 1.85 trillion ($1.6 billion) to ť2.08 trillion ($1.8 billion), courtesy of surging sales of Bravia HDTVs, VAIO PCs, and digital cameras. Profits were also up slightly at Sony Pictures Entertainment, the company's film and television division.
The story was much different over at Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., even though its revenue increased 42.9 percent to 243.4 ($2.1 billion). The company's game unit saw operating losses more than double, going from ť43.5 billion ($378 million) to 96.7 billion ($841 million). In Sony's own words, the shortfall was "due to the loss arising from the strategic pricing of [the PlayStation 3] at points lower than its production costs and PS3-related inventory write-downs." As of September 30, Sony's worldwide game inventory had increased 31.7 percent to 247.8 billion ($2.15 billion) "due to the buildup of finished goods following the introduction of the PS3 platform."
As for hardware sales, the three months ending September 30 saw Sony sell--not ship--1.31 million PS3s worldwide. The company also sold 3.28 million PlayStation 2s (a decrease of 0.31 million from Q2 2006) and 2.58 million PlayStation Portables (an increase of 0.56 million). The company did not break down said sales by region.
When it came to software, Sony sold 10.3 million PS3 games internationally during its second quarter. PS2 games decreased by 9.2 million units to 38 million, and PSP games dipped 600,000 units to 12.6 million units worldwide. No specific games were called out as being best-sellers.

Rock Band will be with you sooner rather than later
All you fanatics of the rhythm genre of games (GH players, I'm looking at you) are probably waiting for the newest game in the Genre, Rock Band, with high expectations. I'm sure a lot of you are also pondering the release date, thankfullly it was revealed today.
The game is expected to launch on the 20th of November rather than the 23rd so all you fans can enjoy Thanksgiving (or a regular day for that matter) playing your favorite songs on your console, BUT only if you're a "Next Gen" gamer, the 360 and PS3 versions launch in November but the PS2 gets the game in December.
For those about to rock, I salute you

Microsoft announced today that a new SKU will be released...
Following photo evidence last week of Xbox 360 Arcade standees appearing at retail outlets, Microsoft today officially confirmed the repackaged console. Outlining the Arcade's appeal to the Financial Times, Microsoft president of entertainment and devices division Robbie Bach said the new configuration was intended to take on Nintendo's popular $249 Wii, which comes with the Wii Sports minigame compilation.
"Arcade becomes [for us] the ability to bring in a new set of audiences," Bach said. "They're probably a little bit more casually focused, they're looking for a new family experience, or they're more price focused."
The Financial Times and Microsoft were mum on when the Arcade will arrive at retail. However, the article did confirm that Microsoft's low-end SKU would maintain its $279 price point, include a wireless controller, and pack in at least three Xbox Live Arcade games: Pac-Man, Uno, and Luxor 2. (Leaked pictures of the boxes show the Pac-Man game included is actually Pac-Man Championship Edition.) Though no other games were mentioned in the FT article, numerous online reports say the game will come with five games in total, including Boom-Boom Rocket and Feeding Frenzy.
The timing of the confirmation isn't surprising. Earlier today, Sony announced it has dropped the price of its 80GB PlayStation 3 SKU in North America to $499. The console maker also plans on introducing a reduced-functionality 40GB model for $399 on November 2.
The parallel announcements of the Xbox 360 Arcade and cheaper PS3 are designed to shake up the next-gen console race. As of the end of August, the NPD Group estimates that, despite a year head start, only 6.3 million 360s have been sold in the US, compared to 4 million Wiis. Both platforms are far ahead of the PS3, which has only sold 1.75 million units in the US since its November 2006 debut.
Lightning says: Well, it certainly beats the crap out of the core package as it comes with games and a wireless controller. It would have been nice to see a memory card packaged too though
