Production of yet another movie adaptation of a game series is set to begin in late August.
From IGN, "The movie version of BloodRayne is being directed by Uwe Boll (House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark) and written by Guin Turner (American Psycho). According to our sources, the film will get underway soon, with shooting set to start on August 20."
"With the film getting rolling in a couple of months, we should be getting the official word on casting soon. In the meantime, our source has tossed out a few names being considered by filmmakers. They are Keira Knightly, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Natalie Portman and Kristanna Lokken. Yes, some of those are longshots, but this is simply a wishlist. Biel and Alba seem within the realm of possibility and would also, from a purist standpoint, fill out the costume most like the character in the game."

Continuing the recent trend of gaming and movie tie-ins (Spy Hunter, Metroid, and Rainbow Six), a script based on the upcoming Doom 3 game is set for a film adaptation. However, another source contradicts that statement and indicates iD still holds rights to the property and is still shopping it for a movie adaptation.
From ComingSoon, "The story is set at a Mars space station, where an aerospace conglom is conducting secret experiments when something unleashes a demonic force that threatens to overtake the facility."
From HomeLAN, "The movie rights have reverted to id, as Warner's option period expired. However, we remain a 'free agent' at this time and multiple studios are interested in the project. The team of John Wells (ER, et. al.) and Lorenzo DiBonaventura (The Matrix, et. al.) that has been working on the project for over a year will remain affiliated with the DOOM movie. The studio question at this point primarily involves the financing."

Besides earlier connections to the movie versions of Spy Hunter and Metroid, John Woo has apparently been picked by Paramount to direct an adaptation of the Tom Clancy novel Rainbow Six, with its obvious video game tie-ins.
From Ferrago, "Entertainment rag Variety reports that said film rights have been acquired by Paramount Pictures, who have enlisted Woo's directorial talents to turn this promising licence into an action-packed blockbuster. Woo's involvement in all things gaming-turned-cinematic first began a couple of months ago when the director's own studio acquired the rights to create a Metroid Prime film, which was closely followed by news a few weeks ago informing us that Woo has also been signed to direct a Spy Hunter film for Universal. Spy Hunter will star The Rock in lead role."

Do-it-yourself ringtone software encroaching on potential profits, some record labels say.
From Kansas.com, "New software that lets anyone create unique cellular phone rings for free has some record labels worried it will kill the cash cow that is the ringtone.
The software, called Xingtone, evokes the same 'oh wow, oh no' reaction from the labels that greeted the original Napster. The fear is that people will make ringtones out of pirated songs, thus compounding the file-sharing problem while robbing the music industry of a new source of revenue.
The quest for a distinctive cell phone ring has created a $3 billion global market for everything from computer-generated renditions of such classics as The Temptations 'Just My Imagination,' to near-CD-quality snippets of popular songs like OutKast's 'Hey Ya!.'"
