The recording industry wants more

They are winning the battle against sharing, people are paying to download songs legally, and they still want more.

From WIRED, "WASHINGTON -- As iTunes, Rhapsody and other song-download sites take off with consumers, it's easy to think that the record industry finally 'gets it' when it comes to selling music in the digital age.

Not so fast, says Rob Glaser, chairman and chief executive of Real Networks, owner of the Rhapsody service.

At the Future of Music Coalition Policy Summit in Washington, D.C., Glaser recounted his general frustration in getting the record labels to offer creative pricing beyond the 99-cents-per-download model. In fact, some labels -- emboldened by consumers' apparent willingness to pay a buck a song -- are talking about raising per-song fees rather than lowering them to increase volume."

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children DVD

Square Enix's second Final Fantasy related DVD continues the FFVII storyline.

Two years after the events of Final Fantasy VII, the ruins of Midgar stand as testament to the sacrifices that were made in order to bring peace. However, the world will soon face a new menace. A mysterious illness is spreading fast. Old enemies are astir. And Cloud, who walked away from the life of a hero to live in solitude, must step forward yet again ...

Final Fantasy VII Advent Children is a fully developed, CG-work sequel to Final Fantasy VII, the seminal 1997 PlayStation hit. Through approximately 60 minutes of beautifully crafted DVD content, Final Fantasy VII Advent Children revisits the rich universe and memorable characters of Final Fantasy VII two years after its dramatic conclusion. Technological advancements bring a visually stunning new look to the city of Midgar and its residents.

Final Fantasy VII, originally released in Japan for the PlayStation console on January 31, 1997 (September 7, 1997 in North America), redefined the standard for role-playing games (RPGs) and has since achieved record-shattering sales of over 9 million units worldwide. Fans have long requested a true sequel, and with Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, their wishes are granted.

The release date for Final Fantasy VII Advent Children will be announced at a later date.

Simpsons cast get a the big payoff, back to work

20th Century Fox Television and the voice actors from the popular animated series "The Simpsons" finally come to an agreement for their pay wages and get back to work in time to finish their new season.

From BBC News, "The actors who provide the voices for hit cartoon The Simpsons are back in the studio, after a pay dispute over contracts led the stars to stop work. Terms of the deal between the show's chief actors and 20th Century Fox Television were not revealed.

Fox TV said they 'couldn't be happier to have reached a multiyear deal with the enormously talented cast'.

The studio remained optimistic that all 22 episodes of the new season would be completed, despite a month-long hiatus."

X-Files return to the big screen

David Duchovny hints on Box office sequel.

During the run of it's nine year life, The X-Files was once THE mainstream science fiction show to watch. Massive audiences for sure. Season one was spent establishing itself, but from the second to the fifth year, The X-Files was hot property. At this point a box office film was done that didn't do bad. The show started dwindling after that, and the fatal blow came when series star, David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), quit at the end of the 7th season. With new characters and stars backing up Gillian Anderson's lead spot (Dana Scully), the show went out with a bang. I shalln't spoil it for you if you missed the two-part finale, but it was a great end to a great show.

Recently, while talking to Moviehole, Duchovny hinted at the planning of a second motion picture.

"It's definiely happening, Chris [Carter; series creator] has a great idea for the new movie and I expect we'll be able to begin shooting in the next year or so."

Last year, Gillian Anderson suggested that the show might take place before the end of series nine, which would be a shame because it would either take some very clevre writing to work Mulder and Scully together when the show's timeline does not allow it, or it would mess up the chronology of the time-line (for the excact same reason). Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

FARSCAPE mini-series confirmed

Details of a new four hour two-part mini-series, Farscape: Peacekeeper War, have been confirmed by Director Brian Henson.

From Dreamwatch Magazine - Written by Farscape creator Rockne S. O'Bannon, Peacekeeper Wars continues from the unresolved cliffhanger following the shows unexpected demise at the end of it's fourth year. Henson, a key figure in Farscapes history, said that they wanted to wrap up the end of final episode 'Bad Timing', but not close the door on Farscape completly.

"The mini-series begins with John Crichton and Aeryn Sun getting put back together after they were crystalised. The characters are now engaged to be married, expecting a baby and just want to settle down", Henson tells Dreamwatch reporter Kate Lloyd. "But the Scarrans and the Peacekeepers have started a huge intergalactic war and they're wiping out populations all over the place and both are trying to find Crichton because they beleive that he has the knowledge to create the ultimate weapon that would destroy the other side."

Shooting began in December 2003 and has been shrouded in secrecy since the production team did not want any of the story to leak. Although Peacekeeper War resolves all of the program's major plotlines, don't worry because it wont be the final Farscape adventure. With the semi-animated episode from season three, Revenging Angel, an animated series is posible, as is a motion picture.

The full artice is in the current issue (117) of Dreamwatch Magazine.
