X-Files return to the big screen
David Duchovny hints on Box office sequel.
During the run of it's nine year life, The X-Files was once THE mainstream science fiction show to watch. Massive audiences for sure. Season one was spent establishing itself, but from the second to the fifth year, The X-Files was hot property. At this point a box office film was done that didn't do bad. The show started dwindling after that, and the fatal blow came when series star, David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), quit at the end of the 7th season. With new characters and stars backing up Gillian Anderson's lead spot (Dana Scully), the show went out with a bang. I shalln't spoil it for you if you missed the two-part finale, but it was a great end to a great show.
Recently, while talking to Moviehole, Duchovny hinted at the planning of a second motion picture.
"It's definiely happening, Chris [Carter; series creator] has a great idea for the new movie and I expect we'll be able to begin shooting in the next year or so."
Last year, Gillian Anderson suggested that the show might take place before the end of series nine, which would be a shame because it would either take some very clevre writing to work Mulder and Scully together when the show's timeline does not allow it, or it would mess up the chronology of the time-line (for the excact same reason). Either way, I'm looking forward to it.
