The upgrade is running now. As for the new features, there will be a new "VB3" forum on the main forum page when its back up that will answer the questions that anyone may have.

It's difficult to say how long it will take. Some steps take a few seconds, while larger table conversions (such as the PMs and users) have taken quite awhile. I'm guessing that the longest part will be the conversion of the actual threads and posts. But, barring another problem, three hours from now does not seem an unreasonable guess...

I second the praise on doing this on a weekday. Quite a smart choice, Al. I'm guessing the upgrade will be done around 8pm CST, 9pm EST, 6pm MST ;). /wishes

Let me give you a little tip that'll keep you from sitting in front of the computer the whole time. Edit config.php in the includes folder and add this to the bottom, above the ?>:
$debug = 1;
define('UPGRADE_AUTOPROCEED', 'true');
Just don't forget to take out $debug=1; before you repoen the board. And remember, there aren't just 42 steps, there are around 115 or something (I counted last time, but it was only to RC4 and I forgot the exact number). Lots of steps.

Allowing the autoproceed would normally make sense, but I'd rather have it pause between steps as our database crashed the server and the upgrade process earlier. It's a pretty big board and seems to be putting a hit on MySQL during the steps. In fact, I'm manually stopping and restarting MySQL to get reset its memory usage between steps to make sure it doesn't get broken again.
